For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
What is the gospel?
The question is not new, and it has not gone unanswered. Countless theologians, pastors and individuals have given it serious, careful, attention for centuries. Volumes have be written. And yet, today, sometimes knowledge, understanding, belief and trust in the message of the gospel remains unclear, unresolved and misunderstood.
At a recent pastors’ conference, a simple exercise revealed something striking: Many of the men and women entrusted with the spiritual care of congregations struggled to articulate the gospel clearly when asked directly. This is not for lack of sincerity and not for lack of training, but because clarity about the gospel does not emerge on its own. It must be pursued, received, and continually remembered.
